A typical air stripping tower consists of a tower shell, demister, water distribution system, packing media, packing support plate, tower sump, and air delivery system . Fiberglass is the most common material used to construct short- to mcdium-height towers bccausc of its good corrosion rcsistancc under most chemical environments. However, fiberglass is not suitable for tall air stripping towers because it is relatively brittle, thus making it somewhat susceptible in strong wind situations. As a result, for tall air stripping towers, other materials such as stainless steel, coated carbon steel, or PVC are generally used. All of these materials offer good corrosion resistance, but their cost is several times higher than fiberglass.

TCI mist eliminator is placed on top of the tower to prevent the discharge of water droplets. Below the demister is the water distribution system. Water is pumped into Che water distributor where it is distributed across the surface of the packing. The most commonly used water distributor is a spray nozzle.

The next item in the tower is the packing media. This is the most important component of an air stripping tower. The main criterion for packing materials is to maximize the surface area for dir and water to inter&cL The packing should also have a large void area to minimize the pressure drop across the tower.
